Explore the Art Hall at Fort Lewis College

Nestled in the heart of campus, Art Hall at Fort Lewis College is a creative hub for aspiring artists and designers. Built in 1997, this 26,250-square-foot facility is filled with natural light thanks to its distinctive clerestory windows—a perfect setting to spark inspiration. The Art Hall is home to 10 state-of-the-art studio classrooms, 2 professional art galleries (Art Gallery & Exit Gallery), and 8 faculty offices with private studios.

Whether you're shaping clay in the Ceramics Studio, experimenting in the Printmaking Studio, or designing digitally in the Mac Lab, you'll find everything you need to bring your ideas to life. Outdoor courtyards provide space to work, gather, and reflect—surrounded by the beauty of Durango, Colorado.

Art Gallery

The heart of Art Hall serving as a creative hub for campus and the Four Corners region. With 1,100 square feet of display space, it features a central cathedral-style room with two alcoves and clerestory windows that bring in natural light. The gallery showcases contemporary artists and designers whose work sparks dialogue and supports learning across academic programs.

Ceramics Studio

Features 16 electric pottery wheels, two clay extruders, and a slab roller, all in a naturally lit space. A separate kiln area includes two gas kilns, one electric kiln, and one raku kiln. Both areas sit next to the outdoor studio.

Computer Mac Lab

Features 36 Intel-based Apple iMacs equipped with Adobe Creative Suite CS6, Microsoft Office, high-resolution slide and flatbed scanners, and two laser printers (black & white and color up to 11x17"). A digital projector supports instruction, and additional services like drum scanning and large-format printing are available through local Durango businesses.

Designing, drawing, & painting

The department features spacious, well-lit, and ventilated studios for drawing, design, and painting. Design studios also serve as seminar spaces, blending lecture and hands-on practice.

Exit Gallery

Offers a dedicated space for individual or group student exhibitions. The Exit Gallery gives students hands-on experience in curating shows and building their professional r茅sum茅s.

Two outdoor courtyards, one in front and one in back, provide flexible space for student projects, classes, and temporary installations.

Print Studio

Supports intaglio, lithography, silkscreen, relief, and monoprinting, with three presses: an etching press, a calligraphic press, and a lithographic press. A connected print lab includes a light table, acid bath, hot plate, and a platemaker for photosensitive materials.

Sculpture Studios

A series of connected spaces adjoining a fully equipped wood shop. The shop includes a table saw, two band saws, a drill press, belt sander, compound miter saw, scroll saw, MIG and oxy/acetylene welders, metal bender, metal chop saw, sewing machine, and a variety of electric hand tools for versatile project work.
