There are many topics to choose from because our faculty and staff have designed these half-semester, one-credit courses around topics they're interested in and passionate about. They can't wait to share their knowledge and excitement with you!

  • Check out all of our Launch courses by browsing this site.
  • Make a list for your advising appointment of your top 3-5 courses that inspire you to think differently about the world and yourself.
  • If you belong to one of the special populations in the "Major and Program" or "Student Population" tab, we highly encourage you to select from one of the courses that apply to you.

There are no prerequisites for Launch courses. And remember, your Skyhawk Station Advisor can help you choose the right course if you're unsure!

Intro to Mountain Biking

Day/Time: W 1:25-3:25

There’s no better place to learn how to mountain bike than Durango, with world-class terrain right in FLC’s backyard. In this introductory course, you’ll develop the fundamental skills needed to tackle trails with confidence, while also building resilience, problem-solving, and adaptability skills that will help you navigate college and beyond.


Lead with Purpose

Day/Time: T/R 9:35-10:30

College isn’t just about picking a major—it’s about figuring out who you are, how you connect with others, and the kind of leader you want to be. In this course, you’ll explore your identity, values, and strengths using tools like the Enneagram and StrengthsFinder, while building community and practicing leadership skills. You’ll leave with more self-awareness, a support network, and tools to help you thrive in college and beyond.


Local Environmentalism

Day/Time: W 3:35-5:35

Get your hands dirty and help out the environment. Volunteer at different local organizations that focus on environmental sustainability. Work on local organic local farms and learn how we can help support local sustainability. Practice Leave No Trace hiking and do an Animas River litter clean up.


PowerPoint Party!

Day/Time: W 1:25-3:25

Join our weekly PowerPoint Party where YOU choose what we learn about! Share your passions, obsessions, and interests in a laid-back, supportive environment where everyone gets to be the expert. Build presentation skills without the pressure, connect with fellow students over shared (and surprising!) interests, and discover campus resources that will set you up for success throughout your college journey.


Run Your Own Race

Day/Time: T/R 2:30-3:25

Marathoner John Bingham said, "If you run, you are a runner. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." Likewise, now that you are at FLC, you ARE a college student. Now you just need to commit to your academics and the life you want to create here. Working hard in the classroom is your run! You train with homework, study sessions, and meetings with your professors. Running is an excellent metaphor for college success, especially regarding the mindsets you need to approach the hard work of learning. Our class will focus on positive thinking, growth mindset, grit, and metacognitive skills. These ways of thinking benefit us in our physical and academic pursuits.


Sex, Love, & Friendship

Day/Time: M/W 3:35-4:30

This course helps you develop meaningful relationships at 麻豆免费高清无砖码区and beyond. Over 8 weeks, you'll gain skills in communication, stress management, boundaries, consent, and more. You'll learn to foster healthy relationships with others and yourself through active participation, emphasizing key skills for lasting connections.


Spilling the College Tea

Day/Time: T/R 11:15-12:10

We will spend much of our time trying new teas in this launch course. While we have our weekly tea parties, we will also spill the college tea. In other words, we will discuss everything you should know to succeed in college.


The Art of the Short Story

Day/Time: M 1:25-3:25

Join a community of English, JMMS, and Writing Majors to discuss six short stories. With readings from Jhumpa Lahiri, Agustina Bazterrica, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, and more, this course will explore how authors craft compelling narratives in a concise form so you can create your own short work.


The Fort Lewis College Ecosystem

Day/Time: T/R 4:05-6:05

We will use connections and structures of natural ecosystems around 麻豆免费高清无砖码区as metaphors for how you are a part of the 麻豆免费高清无砖码区campus “ecosystem” and can thrive as a student. You will spend class time outdoors experiencing nature in FLC’s backyard and exploring campus networks and support systems.


The League of Extraordinary Gamers

Day/Time: M 1:25-3:25

In this class, students will play tabletop board and card games. Through these games, students will learn to apply logic, critical thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning skills. Additionally, the values of sportsmanship, fairness, and social interaction will be encouraged and developed.
