Aaron has stepped up and supported the whole pre-collegiate TRIO team for over a month. After the passing of one of our coworkers, Aaron went head first into a case load he has not worked with and filled in where help was needed. His tenacity and determination to not only solve problems but uplift and empower others came at a critical time. We are so lucky to have Aaron as a part of our team!
Allison Asselin has gone above and beyond the call of duty during our colleagues maternity leave. She is proctoring exams, fielding student questions, and helping students to get in contact with faculty who are covering office hours. Thank you Allison!!!
Despite Allison's Varvaro's short time in the Admission Office, she has already created relationships with local high schools, campus partners, community members, and students. Using these connections, she has been able to showcase Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ¸ßÇåÎÞשÂëÇøat large. She hosted a successful visit with Dr. Shotton at one of our local high schools and has already increased the number of applicants within the local area. The Admission Office is tuly grateful for Allison's dedication to her work and Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ¸ßÇåÎÞשÂëÇøas a whole.
Recently, we’ve seen an increase in serious, unexpected situations that have had a direct impact on a handful of our VA-related students. Carrie has handled each of these circumstances with remarkable grace and compassion. While these situations understandably take an emotional toll on students and their families, I also recognize the impact they have on Carrie. Despite this, she steps in without hesitation, doing everything in her power to ensure that affected students and their families receive the support they need and deserve from FLC. Thank you, Carrie—we’re truly lucky to have you!
Craig helped clean up after the spring surplus sale even though it wasn't his job to help. Thank you Craig!
Cynthia provided amazing care to our Fort Lewis College Community on 4/15/26 by providing aid to the CDPHE Vaccine Clinic. 87 vaccines were provided and 40 people obtained preventative care.
FIRST GEN WORKING GROUP (Michelle Bonanno, Emma Salazar, Dani Navarro, Mariela Avalos, Kendra Gallegos Reichle, Critter Golden, Carolina Alonso, Jen Rider, Jed Gilden, Tim Birchard, Nicolette Griese, Abbie Tarr Cook, Alessandra Medrano, Dana Terrazas Flores, Alma Alejandra, and guests Nicole Guthrie, Anaya Lucero, and Isaac Jones): To all the members and guests who stepped up this year—thank you. In the absence of a First-Gen Student Experience Coordinator, your dedication, flexibility, and genuine care carried this work forward in meaningful ways. Each of you brought not only your time and talent, but also a deep commitment to supporting first-generation students at FLC. Together, you took on significant responsibilities well beyond your expected roles, balancing both the heavy lifts that moved critical initiatives forward and the many smaller efforts that help create a welcoming, affirming campus environment. Because of your collective effort and heart, we not only met our annual goals—we strengthened the foundation of support for our first-gen students in lasting ways. In doing so, you not only supported students day-to-day—you also helped move forward key priorities within the college’s strategic plan, especially those centered on student success, access, and equity. A special shout-out to the students, whose leadership, energy, and lived experiences shaped this work in powerful ways, even through their already-packed schedules and outside commitments. Your voices helped guide our efforts, and your willingness to show up for your peers made a lasting impact on this campus community. Your work did not go unnoticed, and it made a real difference. Thank you for showing up (even on weekends!), for leaning in, and for making this community stronger.
John helped me work out a bunch of different workday expense report issues, clarified business travel items, and more! He stayed on the phone with me as long as needed (which was a long time), was super encouraging, and helped me work through overwhelming Workday tasks. I so appreciated him, and I can't say how much it helped me feel confident making travel arrangements moving forward!
Jordan Noble has proven herself to be an invaluable asset to the SBDC since joining us one year ago. From her very first week, she demonstrated initiative and reliability by stepping in to manage the center during my absence over spring break. She has embraced her role with enthusiasm, actively engaging in statewide committees and programs, and volunteering for additional training to earn a certification critical to our state network. Jordan is highly regarded by both our clients and advising team, consistently bringing a positive attitude and strong work ethic to everything she does. Her contributions have made a lasting impact, and she has truly become indispensable to our program.
Karis stepped in to her new role at Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ¸ßÇåÎÞשÂëÇøin a seamless way that makes me believe she's been working here for more than a decade. She has already made connections with high school counselors across Colorado with key connections to help us support students who are perfect for FLC. I admire her hard work and commitment to supporting the Admission Office, her students, and others she has met throughout the process. I am excited to see the other amazing things Karis does as she continues her work with FLC.
With the school year coming to a close, I want to give out a very special and needed shout out to PPS Custodial Services, both Academic and Housing. These crews work tirelessly to keep the students and staff on campus taken care of and in safe, healthy spaces. Their dedication to the school and it's population is outstanding and with the many conversations I have had with students and staff, greatly appreciated. Before you leave for the summer, please say thank you to one of these amazing people!
In July of 2025, Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ¸ßÇåÎÞשÂëÇøwas on the verge of losing an incredibly bright and charismatic student. They reached out to SHS with strong interest in taking a break from school; fortunately, Shelby reached out and connected with the student to talk through the decision. Now, fast forward one year, we're excited to say that the student will be walking in commencement this Saturday, having fully completed their degree. This dedication and compassionate service is indicative of what Shelby brings to the table every single day. It is safe to say that this Fli-Hi nomination is long overdue!
Tess has truly exemplified team work, kindness, and dependability. Tess took on additional student caseloads after one of our TRIO teammates passed away and has worked to alleviate the pressure and stress from other members in TRIO. Her ability to jump in headfirst and bring a sense of calm and consistency was crucial during so much uncertainty. Thank you, Tess! We could not do this without you.
While Wyatt has recently parted ways with our Academic Advising team, he continues to make a positive impact on Skyhawk Station. Wyatt always took great care in his role as an academic advisor, and students continue to communicate with him still, during the transition period. Without being asked, and because he understands its importance, Wyatt continues to log these conversations in Slate so that the SHS team can remain aware and in the loop with these interactions (while it seems small, these things are incredibly helpful for our team as we look at the student experience from a holistic lens). Thank you, Wyatt, for continuing to help us out in the best way!
