This type of appeal means a student asks the 麻豆免费高清无砖码区Financial Aid Office to review their dependency status to determine if they qualify as independent based on their family situation.

For the Financial Aid Office to consider an Appeal, the student must document an extreme, unique, and/or unusual family circumstance that prevents them from obtaining parental information.

Circumstances considered include:

• Abandonment by parents
• An abusive family environment that threatens the student's health and safety
• Inability to locate parents
• Incarceration or institutionalization of both parents
• Severe estrangement from a parent

Circumstances that DO NOT qualify for consideration include:

• Parents refuse to contribute to the student's education or are not supporting the student
• Parents are unwilling to provide information on the FAFSA or for verification
• Parents do not claim the student as a dependent for income tax purposes
• The student demonstrates total self-sufficiency

How to appeal for a Dependency Override

If a student believes they qualify to appeal for a dependency override, they must contact Skyhawk Station for the Dependency Override Appeal Form.

General Instructions

Students appealing for a Dependency Override must:

• Submit a signed Request for Dependency Override form, along with a signed personal statement outlining why they should be considered independent, their current living situation, how they are supported, and details of the relationship/situation with both biological/adoptive parents.
• Have a current year FAFSA on file with the "special circumstances" box checked without parental information.
• Submit at least two signed letters from third parties confirming the student's situation and/or an official document such as a court order. At least one source must be from an unrelated professional who can verify the student's situation (A third party includes, but is not limited to, a teacher, counselor, medical authority, social worker, or a government agency).
• Return the form to the Financial Aid Office in person or via our .

Deadline:

The Financial Aid Office must receive the request and supporting documentation by the midterm date of the Spring semester or 1st day of the summer term if beginning attendance in the summer for the current academic year.

Aid adjustments:

Approving a Dependency Override Appeal does not guarantee increased financial aid awards.

Students with a significant change in their household's financial circumstances from what was reported in their FAFSA form can submit a Reconsideration of Need Appeal to reconsider their financial aid eligibility based on the new information.   

*In most cases, approved appeals will only change Federal Pell Grant and/or Federal Direct Subsidized loan funds. 

Circumstances considered include: 

Listed below are situations the Financial Aid Office will consider a Reconsideration of Need Appeal for possible changes in financial aid eligibility: 

• My own, my spouse's, or my parent(s)' employment income has changed considerably due to layoff, termination, etc. 
• I, my spouse, or my parent(s) have/has unusually high unreimbursed, non-elective out-of-pocket medical or dental expenses. 
• I, my spouse, or my parent(s) lost untaxed income or benefits such as child support. 
• I, my spouse, or my parent(s) have/has elementary or secondary tuition. 
• I, my spouse, or my parent(s) have/has a loss of income and/or assets due to reasons beyond their control. (i.e., fire, natural disaster, death) 
• I, my spouse, or my parent(s) have/had a conversion of traditional IRAs to Roth IRAs in a reported tax year. 

Aid adjustments 

Adjustments to a financial aid award due to an approved Reconsideration of Need appeal are neither guaranteed nor immediate and depend upon funding availability.

Students must show "financial need" to receive federal, state, and private financial aid. When a student completes the FAFSA, the Federal Department of Education uses a formula to determine a student's Student Aid Index (formerly the Expected Family Contribution). The Financial Aid Office uses your SAI number to determine your eligibility for different types of financial aid.

Calculating your financial need

Need-based aid is financial aid you can receive if you have financial need and meet other eligibility criteria. You can't accept more need-based aid than the amount of your financial need.

If you are selected for verification, our office needs to confirm the information on your FAFSA application before we can determine your eligibility for need-based aid. Don't assume you've done something wrong if you've been chosen for verification.

The most common types of verification documents requested:  

• Student's and parent's IRS tax transcript.
• Parents' and/or students' W-2(s) 
• Verification Worksheets 
• Copies of social security cards 
• Birth certificates 
• Marriage licenses 
• Income and expense statements 
• Asset statements 
• Eligible non-citizen status documents

If you did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, you must provide our office with an official Federal Income Tax Return Transcript for verification. If you are a dependent student, we will also need a copy of your parent's or parents' Federal Income Tax Transcript.

Tax filers can request Federal Tax Return Transcript information free of charge by:

Tax filers who cannot get an IRS Tax Return Transcript because of IRS identity theft submit a Tax Return DataBase View (TRDBV) instead along with a signed and dated statement indicating that they were victims of tax-related identity theft and that the IRS is aware of it.

In most cases, students who have earned an Associate degree (AA or AS) from institutions other than public Colorado institutions will undergo the typical course-by-course credit evaluation.

The Registrar's Office maintains a list of institutions with a blanket exception. All Liberal Arts Core requirements get waived for transfer students who earned an AA or AS from one of the institutions on that list.

When the Registrar's Office does a course-by-course evaluation for a student who earned an AA or AS at a non-Colorado institution not on that list, they review that institution's general education requirements to see if it is similar in structure and scope to Colorado's gtPathways. If it is found sufficiently similar, that institution will join the list.

Students must fulfill all prerequisites for Fort Lewis College courses, even if Registrar's Office waived their Liberal Arts Core requirements.

There is no impact on your current academic standing or financial aid. This is simply a way to get the credentials you've already earned.

Eligibility for reverse transfer

• You have completed 15 credit hours at a community college in Colorado
• You have a minimum of 70 credit hours, including coursework at FLC

• Your completed credit hours meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of General Studies (determined by degree audit)
• You have not requested that your data be withheld
• You have not already received an associate's or bachelor's degree.

How it works

• If you are eligible for Reverse Transfer, you'll receive an email from us every year in March. If you want to participate, use the tool in that email.
• If you attended any other higher education institutions, send your official transcripts to your community college so those credits can be considered toward your associate degree.

Instructors do not need to manage their own waitlists; they are all automated. All classes have an available waitlist except courses with a required lab with a separate CRN (e.g., CHEM 150).

Students do not need instructor permission to join a course's waitlist unless they need an override to register. You can find more information from the student perspective on the registration page.

Every course must meet under one of the formats described below unless an explicit exception has been made by the Vice President for Academic Affairs (view or download a PDF of the Uniform Schedule Grid). Additional flexibility may be available for late-afternoon classes.

We understand colleges and universities nationwide deviated from their traditional grading schemes for all Spring 2020 - Fall 2021 courses, with many moving to a version of Pass/No Pass grading scale. To account for this, we accept any course with transferable course content for which the student earned a P grade, provided that P is equivalent to a grade of C- or higher.

The Colorado Department of Education's Commission on Higher Education requires students to have 750 minutes of seat time for each credit hour they earn. To prevent the College from running afoul of accreditation standards, we cannot permit time-conflict overrides under any circumstances, even if the amount of overlapping time is minimal.

However, instructors may arrange for students to take Independent Study credits instead of one of the classes. Departments can grant substitutions so that Independent Study credits satisfy a particular major or minor requirement.
