Title: Finding Hidden Histories: Gulliford’s Travels and Dr. G.’s Academic Journey

Join us on September 24 at 4:30 p.m. on the Main Stage of the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ¸ßÇåÎÞשÂëÇøTheatre to hear Dr. Andrew Gulliford, Professor of History & Environmental Studies, discuss his academic journey as a first-generation college student. He graduated with a B.A. in History, earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching or M.A.T. and taught fourth grade for seven years before earning his Ph.D.  Dr. G. will discuss his teaching philosophy and style, his use of photography, his fund-raising, his special projects in public history, and what it takes to research and write award-winning books on the rural American West. He’ll show plenty of photographs, talk about his favorite classes, and encourage students to find out exactly, exactly, what you want to do—and then get someone to pay you to do it!

The Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ¸ßÇåÎÞשÂëÇøUndergraduate Research Speaker Series allows students at all levels, staff, faculty, and the broader Durango community to hear research-related personal stories. The talks last 35-40 minutes, followed by Q&A, snacks, and conversation.  Watch previous Speaker Series talks .
